Day 2 - To Alicante, Valencia - 248 miles
Day 2
Day 2 profile
I checked out at 09:00, it was still raining. The GPS refused to
initialise in the warren of narrow wet cobbled streets as it couldn't
"see" the satellites. I could barely see the sky and what I
could was extremely grey. I followed my instincts to get out of the town
and find a clear patch and let the GPS do its bit.
I found the M404 which led me back to the A3. Take the 1st exit
indicated the GPS. No, the slip-road onto the motorway was the second
exit. 15 all then.
It was a mundane run to Alicante, all motorway but I wanted to be there for
lunch. The rain stopped and the skies cleared early in the trip, almost as
soon as I left Chinchón. There were some pleasant stretches, almost
devoid of other traffic and I tucked in behind an Audi with Spanish plates who
was making good progress! I only made two stops, just for fuel. Once
within 20 miles of Alicante the traffic density increased dramatically.
At 13:18 I arrived the Carrefour which I knew was close by the apartment. I had plotted the position of the apartment by a combination of guesswork,
multimap, sketches drawn by the owner and a photocopy of a local street
map. My "guesstimate" turned out to be only 120ft from the true
position. Unfortunately the GPS map doesn't show the roads for this area
but, with a little casting around I eventually arrived at 13:31. It didn't
take me quite as long as the ladies!
Bike was parked underground and gear unloaded and a glass of sangria was in
my hand.
