Not much to be said about this part of the journey other than it was a means to an end.  Although it has to be said it wasn't as bad as I thought it would be.  The object was purely to get us up to the Picos mountains as quickly as possible.  We were off at 10:20 (earlier than I thought, after the previous night), petrol stop and brief foray south of Sigüenza to take some pictures of the castle.  Then back on the Cm110, but not going northwards on the Gu170, instead cutting westwards to Ayllón before which the said Cm110 magically becomes the C114.  Then on to Aranda de Duero and join the A1 north to Burgos.  40 miles from Sigüenza the route rises to over 4,500 ft but because it is a big plateau it doesn't appear all that high as the land around is at the same level.  Some interesting roads though with a variable surface and good bends - the group seemed happy with them.  The A1 was ....well a motorway, not a lot more you can say.

As we approached Burgos the little voice in my ear (Ms Garmin) was saying keep left in  xxx metres, keep left - so I went right,  Completely brain-dead after 45 miles of motorway.  So we came into Burgos from the east instead of the south.  I also took a traffic light on the cusp of it turning red and left the rest behind.  It must have been whilst I was looking in my mirror thinking "Bother" that I missed the second red light that I am told I ran (I don't believe it personally - I would never do anything like that, would I?). Anyway we escaped from the clutches of Burgos at 14:10 and by now starting to feel hungry headed up the N623 and then onto the N627 towards Aguilar de Campoó.  At 14:32, 3055 ft 81.6 °F, N42.62441 W3.84292, just outside Úrbel Del Castillo, we stopped for lunch at a small trucker's café.

At 16:15 we reached Aguilar de Campoó, missed a turn, returned and found the P212 which is having major road improvements and at 16:44 arrived at the Parador.

Not many pictures as we didn't stop much and I didn't have the video running..  If you want to see more pictures of Parador de Cervera then see the 2003 trip

P1000812.jpg (114718 bytes) This time we had the "cheap seats" at the back.  Not  quite the view as in 2003 but pleasant all the same.

We had the usual Parador meal and service.  Reliable but not memorable.
