Day 2 - To Carillon de los Condes, Castilla-León - 89.4 miles
Day 2
Day 2 profile
At 10:22 we left Selores and travelled the C-625, very potholed with sections
under repair. Plenty of bends and aesthetically pleasing though as it ascends to
just over 4000ft. The view coming down the other side extends for miles
across towards the South. We then turned onto the C-628 and then at Reinosa took
the N-611 - a new road with some fast sweepers. As lunch time 13:00 approached
I spotted a small restaurant at Alar Del Rey [ N42.66205 W4.31349] with a couple
of artics parked opposite. Always a good sign - if the truckers use it
then it is likely to be good, and it was.
An hour later and we were on our way south again until we turned right onto
the N-120 at Osomo la Mayor heading westwards to our destination where we
arrived at the Hotel Real Monastario de San Zoilo *** at 14:49.
We had a wander around the town which appears to have little to offer and on
this visit to the hotel we were not quite as impressed with the food. The
staff, however, were extremely helpful but I think this is one of those places
that it is good to visit once because of the impressive abbey and cloisters but
perhaps not really worth a visit on a second year. We will probably skip
going down here again.
