Day 3 - In Lot et Garonne

By 09:30 we were on the road again - no packing to do this time. I decided to take us on a trip to the magnificent church at Penne d'Agenais near Saint Sylvestre sur Lot.  As we circled the hill upon which the church was built from the north side were were greeted with a picturesque view of the Lot valley partly covered by morning mist.

We passed by the car park for the church and enjoyed a detour along some very narrow country lanes - oops.  When we returned to the car park we divested ourselves of as much of our gear as decent, performed an extraction on one of Daryl's earplugs and climbed the remainder of the hill to the church.

Then we returned to Tournon d'Agenais and sat in the square with the moon phase clock and reflected for 40 minutes on how the tourist season had already ended since most of the shops were closed.

At 11:45 we mounted up again and then took the D18 southeast to Montaigu de Quercy and beyond.  Great stretch of road together with the D2.  14 miles of excellent bends with mostly a good surface and good scenery.  Perhaps our enjoyment was enhanced by the lack of luggage or just that we didn't actually have to get anywhere.  Where the D2 joins the D58 we turned southwest and then headed northwest along some very lumpy rural roads which aided our understanding of how the Citroen 2CV was conceived!

By this time it was 12:19 and we started looking for lunch.  By the time we arrived back at the Château de l'Hoste at 13:07 we still hadn't found anywhere so we just had to have a three course lunch there.  Oh well, that was another few items on the menu we could scratch off.

The afternoon was spent in pleasant contemplation :-)

At dinner we managed another gastronomic extravaganza and an exceptional and expensive bottle of Cahors (up to this point I had thought the wines of Cahors a little thin and lacking in body - now I don't).

Distance travelled 89 miles .
